The shag-rug nudibranch (Aeolidia papillosa) has the ability to store undischarged stinging cells from its anemone prey in its gills for defense. This species has smooth rhinophores, and is found in the North Pacific as well as the North Atlantic. The shag-rug nudibranch can grow to 4 inches (10 cm) long, with a range in the Pacific Northwest from central Alaska to Washington.
