A Monterey sea lemon (Doris montereyensis) was spotted crossing a purple ochre star on a dive near Campbell River.  This nudibranch can vary from pale yellow to light orange with some black bumps (tubercles) and blotches across its surface.  The similar looking Pacific sea lemon (Peltodoris nobilis) species has dark areas between but not directly on the tubercles.  The Monterey sea lemon can grow to 6 inches (15 cm) long, with a range from southern Alaska to southern California.
