Project Description

I was very surprised to see this large red coloured yellowleg pandalid (Pandalus tridens) during a night dive at Elliot Beach, Vancouver Island.  The red colouration of this shrimp contrasted well against a mass of brown algae it was resting upon.  The yellowleg pandalid has banding on its legs and antennae with an absence of dark marks on its body.  This shrimp can grow to 5 inches (13 cm) in length, with a range that includes Japan, as well as northern Alaska to southern California.
