Project Description

These fine tentacles of a white giant plumose anemone (Metridium farcimen) seem very delicate, but are perfect for collecting food from the surrounding water.  Plumose anemones are stationary animals that prefer to be located in a mild current, and can often be found in large groups.  Giant plumose anemones can reach a height of 39 inches (1 m) tall, with their supporting column being around 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter.  These anemones have a white or orange colour variation, with a range from northern Alaska to northern Mexico.
