A Townsend’s eualid (Eualus townsendi) was a great find on a recent night dive.  This shrimp has red markings with yellow highlights and a large dorsal hump.  It is similar looking to Kincaid’s shrimp, but does not have a light coloured line along the length of its head spike (rostrum).  Townsend’s eualid has a range that includes the Sea of Japan, as well as Pribilof Islands, Alaska to Puget Sound, and can grow to 2.3 inches (6 cm) in length.
