Project Description

A very thin orange sponge was noticed surrounding a lurid rocksnail (Ocinebrina lurida) and it’s interesting how the sponge intensifies the colour of the shell.  I mentioned the sponge to Gregory Jensen, a Pacific Northwest marine life expert, who said he had also noticed similar sponges on lurid rocksnails.  Apparently the next step is to collect a sample of the sponge for identification.  I’m curious if there is a mutually beneficial relationship between the sponge and the lurid rocksnail?
