These strawberry anemones (Corynactis californica) looked amazing as they carpeted vast rocky expanses of our dive site near Campbell River. Strawberry anemones are plankton feeders that prefer high current areas. These anemones can reproduce asexually creating large colonies of clones, with each colony covering an area around 10 square feet (1 square metre). An individual anemone grows to about 1 inch (2.5 cm) tall and wide. Strawberry anemones have a range that extends from northern British Columbia to northern Mexico.
