Project Description

While diving at Tyee Cove near Nanoose Bay, I noticed this spotted gray sponge (Penares cortius).  I thought it looked interesting with lighter shades of gray edging the openings.  This sponge tends to grow in a way that rock often shows though in areas.  The shape is irregular, and ridges may form as well.  The spotted gray sponge has a range from southern Alaska to southern California.
