Project Description

These sickle jackknife clam (Solen sicarius) shell valves were a great find while exploring the shallows at the end of a dive.  This clam prefers to live in silty or muddy areas in sheltered bays.  The sickle jackknife clam has a slight curve to its shape but almost looks rectangular, and is greenish-yellow to brown.  This clam can grow to 5 inches (12 cm) long, with a range from northern British Columbia to northern Mexico.
