Project Description

This small red coloured stiletto shrimp (Heptacarpus stylus) was holding on tight to a kelp frond as it swayed back and forth in the ocean current.  Stiletto shrimps have three main colour phases that blend with the surrounding plant life.  They can appear in shades of red, emerald green or golden brown.  The Stiletto shrimp can grow to 2.2 inches (5.7 cm) long, with a range from northern Alaska to northern Washington.
