We are in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, so I’m not diving right now and instead have been looking through some of my photos wanting to add a few more to this website. I really liked the look of this bright orange encrusting sponge taken a while ago near Victoria. I had difficulty trying to ID the sponge from my limited collection of books, and so contacted Neil McDaniel in the hope that he could help solve the mystery. Neil mentioned that this sponge is an unusual specimen that needs further investigation. I’m hoping in a few months I can go diving again to begin looking for this interesting sponge, or ones like it in the same area, and take more photos. I’ll concentrate on some macro shots to get a closer look at the channel structures on its surface.
