Project Description

On a bright sunny day near the end of a fantastic dive, I discovered this purple ochre star (Pisaster ochraceus) in the shallows surrounded by the sun’s rays.  These sea stars have colour variations that include orange, yellow-orange, yellow, purple, purple-grey or reddish-brown.  Ochre stars can grow to about 20 inches (50 cm) across, with a range from central Alaska to northern Mexico.
