Project Description

During a dive I found this many-ribbed puncturella (Cranopsis multistriata) limpet shell resting on the sea floor.  This limpet looks similar to the hooded puncturella, but has many more tightly packed smaller radial ribs on its shell.  The bottom edge of the shell (basal edge) is smooth.  The many-ribbed puncturella can grow to around 0.8 inches (2 cm) across, with a range from northern Alaska to northern Mexico.
