This yellow kelp perch (Brachyistius frenatus) has large scales, without wide stripes or bars on its body, and the species can range in colour from yellow to brown, while also having blue dots and whitish areas.  Kelp perch can often be seen around giant kelp and other forms of algae, and can reach 8.7 inches (22 cm) in length, with a range from southern Alaska to northern Mexico.
