Near the end of a dive, a large stout shrimp (Heptacarpus brevirostris) with white anterior caught my attention in the bright shallows.  These thick shrimps can be seen in a wide variety of colours and patterns, and are named after the small rostrum (head spike) that extends just past their eyes.  The stout shrimp grows to 2.4 inches (6.2 cm) long, with a range from Attu, Aleutian Islands and Pribilof Islands, Alaska to Tanner Bank, California.
