Project Description

This colourful sandalwood dorid (Acanthodoris lutea) was noticed at Maple Bay, Vancouver Island, on a small rocky reef.  I was very surprised to see the orange colouration with pure white gill plume, and had not seen a nudibranch like this on previous dives.  Despite its unusual colouration, this nudibranch was identified as a sandalwood dorid by marine life experts.  The sandalwood dorid can grow to 1.2 inches (3 cm) in length, with a range from northern BC to northern Mexico.
