Project Description

The salt and pepper nudibranch (Aegires albopunctatus) is a small critter I’ve been looking for over the past few years, and during a recent dive at a new site I finally managed to get a photo of one!  Even though this nudibranch appears pure white, it actually has very small white dots over a semi-translucent body.  These white dots combined with a smattering of larger darker dots are the reason for its common name.  The salt and pepper nudibranch can grow to 0.9 inches (2.2 cm) long, with a range from southern Alaska to northern Mexico.
