The rainbow star (Orthasterias koehleri) is very colourful and has prominent spines on its arms. In addition to the spines, are miniature jaw-like pincers scattered over its body surface which are used for defence. The rainbow star can grow to 24 inches (60 cm) across, with a range from northern Alaska to northern Mexico.
