This Pacific harbour seal (Phoca vitulina richardsi) gave me a bit of a fright, and I flinched as it glided in front of me on a night dive at the Ogden Point Breakwater in Victoria. My buddy thought the whole thing was funny, and I have to admit it was great entertainment. The colouration of the Pacific harbour seal is brownish black with mottled patterns of grey and white. Adults can reach a length of just over 6 feet (1.9m), and weigh over 260 pounds (120 kg). The Pacific harbour seal has a range from Alaska to Baja California, Mexico.
