Rhythmic beating of cilia hair allow the lobed sea gooseberry (Bolinopsis infundibulum) to move through water. This comb jelly is a great find and almost invisible, unless your dive light illuminates the pulsating rows of cilia hair that flash a rainbow of colours. The lobed sea gooseberry’s body is filled with jelly, with one layer of cells on the outside and another lining the internal cavity. This comb jelly can grow to 6 inches (15 cm) long, with a range from northern Alaska to southern California.
